2025 Kalihi Ahupuaʻa Ride

This year’s annual Kalihi Ahupuaʻa Ride was held on Saturday, April 12th. Already in its 7th year, this year’s ride was extra special as KVIBE celebrated its 20th anniversary this past February. More than 130 riders and volunteers made the journey from mauka to makai. Preregistration tickets also sold out this year! “More people showed out to celebrate with us,” said KVIBE Coordinator Savelio “Nuki” Makasini. “We were nearly wiped out of bikes, which worried us a little, but it all worked out great.”

The ride began bright and early at Hoʻoulu ʻĀina with an aloha circle. Riders then made their way to KVIBE, where they heard stories from various youth. A new addition to the ride this year was that participants helped to plant plants outside of the KVIBE warehouse in front of a new mural. “This part was exciting for me because we’ve never done something like this before,” said Nuki. “We still wanted it to be interactive, but different since it's our 20th year.” From KVIBE, riders went to Puea Cemetery where they learned about Joseph Kahahawai. The next stop was Bishop Museum where riders learned about the history there. Niuhelewai at Loʻi Kalo Park was next, where Uncle Robert welcomed riders and youth shared stories. Kalākaua District Park offered some respite, thanks to Councilmember Radiant Cordero’s office for providing refreshments. The ride wrapped up at Mauliola Keʻehi to learn about Mokauea Island.
