Returning to Our Roots

Food is powerful. Through preparing and sharing food, we strengthen the roots that connect us to the land, the sea, our cultures, our community, our family, and to each other. The Roots Project strives to improve the social, physical, and mental health of the people of Kalihi Valley.

Roots Cafe and Mobile Market is open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:30 to 1:30 in KKV’s Wellness Center.

Supporting Hawaiʻi’s Local Farmers

The Roots Cultural Food Hub partners with small, sustainable food growers and producers on Oʻahu and throughout the Hawaiian islands to purchase produce, protein, and value-added items for the Roots Café, the Mobile Market, and for KKV’s COVID-19 response program, which includes food prescriptions, meals, produce bags, and CSʻAi boxes. Roots recently started a new program for the distribution of community food boxes, supporting KKV’s Elder Care, Diabetes and Nutrition programs, Youth Services, and Medical team.
