Stronger together. That was one of the messages that the WE Are Kalihi Unity Walk and celebration embodied when it was held on October 7th. The event was created to show all the good that goes on in Kalihi and to uplift and celebrate the community in stressful times. The initiative was supported by several nonprofit organizations including KKV, Parents and Children Together (PACT), Weed and Seed Hawaii, and YMCA Honolulu. About 150 participants took part in the walk, which started at 3 different locations: YMCA Kalihi, Towers at Kuhio Park, and KKV, and ended at Kaʻewai Elementary School. There, a celebration and resource fair were held. Attendees enjoyed student artwork, activities, and food. Kalihi families and residents could also get support and resources from several social service providers. Event organizers hope this message of unity will spark other community initiatives throughout the state.
