KKV’s Major Accomplishments Over the Past 50 years:

- Opened KKV 1972.

- Moved to two renovated surplus trailers in 1973.

- Opened O'ahu's first shelter for abused spouses and children in 1975.

- Opened new clinical sites in 1980’s and 1990’s.

- Received first Community Health Center grant in 1986.

- Designated as a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) in 1989.

- Established a Youth Gang Prevention task force in 1991.

- Started providing Mental Health Services in 1994.

- Opened Elder Care services program 2001.

- Started Bike Klinic in 2003. Now named the Kalihi Valley Instructional Bike Exchange (KVIBE), this after-school youth program promotes health through bicycling and health education.

-Established a general dentistry resident program through Lutheran Medical Center in 2003.

- Leased 100-acre nature park and named this Ho’oulu ‘Āina in 2005.

- Opened the Judd Medical Clinic in 2008.

- Partnered with Kapiolani Community College Dental Assistant program to provide hands-on training in 2008.

- Established partnership with Medical Legal Partnership for Children in 2009.

- Started Returning to Our Roots cultural food program in 2011.

- Opened KKV’s Wellness Center in 2012.

- Started NieiRek and Seams Wonderful in 2014. NieiRiek, meaning women holding a vision in the Chuukese language, is a cultural support group facilitated by our Micronesian super aunties. Seams Wonderful is an economic empowerment sewing program that both teaches participants sewing skills and connects them to health and social services.

- Launched KKV’s Mobile Dental Clinic for Kalihi schools in 2014.

- Started offering Optometry services in 2015.

- Initiated the Pathways Program in 2018 which was designed to help orient staff to the plethora of KKV services while building stronger bonds between and within different KKV departments.

- Initiated Lomilomi massage services at main clinic and Ho’oulu ‘Āina in 2019.

- Launched the Na Koa Clinic and Hui Hoaka program in 2020. Na Koa is KKV’s Covid Testing clinic located in the Judd Medical Clinic. Hui Hoaka is a covid-19 support program which helps connect affected families with the medical, nutritional, and financial resources they need to aid in recovery

- Opened KKV’s Pharmacy in 2021.

- Expanded Pacific Voices Youth Program to a second site at Kalihi Elementary 2021.Pacific Voices is an after-school youth program where participants have the opportunity to learn and grow by practicing their culture through dance, chanting, and storytelling.
