After a year of no performances because of COVID-19, the Pacific Voices youth had an opportunity to shine this past Saturday at the Celebrate Micronesia Festival held on the grounds of the Bishop Museum in Kalihi.

The annual festival featured culture, arts, performances, poetry, stories, and resources from across Micronesia. This year, part of it was in person, and part online. Our own Carol Ann Carl acted as MC. KKV was also represented by Amenina Opet, whose Seams Wonderful program had a booth selling the bags and clothing made by the talented women working in the sewing studio at KPT. The Pacific Voices youth performed the opening protocol for the event, welcoming the audience with traditional chanting and a Chuukese stick dance.

As part of the virtual event, KKV’s Pacific Voices Coordinator Innocenta Sound-Kikku was featured in the Poets of Indigenous Literatures from Micronesia, a Honolulu Museum of Art/ PIDP production. Listen below.

The festival was co-sponsored by the Pacific Islands Development Program, East West Center and the Bishop Museum.
