WHATʻS HAPPENING WITH MEDICAID (MED-QUEST)?
Changes to Medicaid (Med-QUEST) are coming, and we want to help our neighbors and ʻohana stay informed and connected to care.
Starting January 1, 2027, new federal requirements may affect how some adults ages 19 to 64 qualify for Medicaid coverage. We know that understanding these changes can feel confusing, but you don't have to figure it out alone.
We're here to help you understand what's changing, what it may mean for you and your ʻohana, and what steps you can take to keep your healthcare coverage.
We're here for you. We got you covered.
WHATʻS CHANGING?
New Requirements - Some adults will need to meet new work, volunteer, or school requirements to continue receiving Medicaid coverage. Certain individuals may be exempt from these requirements. To learn more about who may be exempt, visit the Hawaiʻi Med-QUEST website for a complete up-to-date list.
More Frequent Renewals - For those affected by the new rules, Medicaid eligibility will need to be renewed every 6 months instead of once a year.
WHAT CAN you DO right NOW?
As these Medicaid changes approach, Hawaii's Department of Human Services (DHS) and Med-QUEST Division are continuing to share information and guidance to help families prepare.
In the meantime, your health and well-being remain our priority. There are a few simple things you can do to stay connected to care and keep your coverage on track.

Keep Your Healthcare Appointments - Continue scheduling and attending your regular healthcare visits. Your health matters, and we're here to care for you.
Pick Up Your Medications - Continue filling and picking up your prescribed medications to support your health and well-being.
Keep Your Contact Information Updated - Make sure Med-QUEST has your current mailing address, phone number, and other contact information so you don't miss important notices about your coverage.
Get Ready - If you work, be sure to save your paystubs. If you donʻt have a paystub, but have proof of $580 of monthly income, save that proof of income. If you are enrolled in an educational program at least half time, ask your school for an official proof of enrollment.
Have Questions? We're Here to Help - If you're unsure about your Medicaid coverage or need help understanding these changes, KKV's Eligibility Team is here to support you and your ʻohana.
