Department Retreats
Multiple KKV departments were able to relax and unwind at their team retreats over the past few months. Youth Services, KVIBE, Medical, and Dental departments took some time to have fun, get to know each other better, and focus on team building.

On November 8th and 9th, Youth Services held a team retreat at the Lokahi Center in Waiʻanae. Throughout the two days, staff members came together in fellowship to relax, have fun, and share stories. On the 8th, the team engaged in group talk story sessions sharing their KKV journeys and discussing the values they collectively uphold. Fun was also had playing games and engaging in activities. On the 9th, the team volunteered at Kaʻala Farm in Waiʻanae. Youth Services Coordinator Rona Mangayayam shared that this was a nourishing experience to learn about the ahupuaʻa system. KVIBE Retreat

From October 12th to October 14th, the KVIBE staff gathered for their annual retreat in Lāʻie, dedicating three days and two nights to welcoming their new interns. The interns participated in fun games and activities that focused on teamwork and strategy. One of the activities included creating posters of KVIBE’s accords: Mutual Respect, No Capping, Share the Road, Confidential, Self Care, Take Your Own Inventory, and Keep the Same Frame. Staff also enjoyed eating together, playing basketball, swimming in the pool, and watching movies. Some community members even visited the interns to talk story and share memories of KVIBE. Medical Retreat

KKV’s Medical Team held their annual departmental retreat on Friday, September 29th at Hoʻoulu ʻĀina. Medical, Behavioral Health, Intake and Eligibility, Pharmacy, Nutrition, and Optometry departments all participated. The Medical Team holds this retreat annually to give staff a better opportunity to know each in a more relaxed setting. They did a variety of activities related to team building, sharing, and quality improvement. A big mahalo to Hoʻoulu ʻĀina for hosting and making this year’s retreat so successful! Dental Retreat 2023

On Friday, July 14th, KKV’s Dental Department also hosted a retreat. The retreat provided an opportunity to welcome new dental residents, reflect on the past year, and celebrate the hard work of their dedicated staff. The team enjoyed breakfast at the Wellness Center, then went to Hoʻoulu ʻĀina, where they shared stories about Dr. David Breese, one of the leading forces of KKV’s dental department. After lunch, the team visited Dr. Breese at the Punchbowl Cemetery, then enjoyed a ride on the Skyline, Honolulu’s new rail system. Photos courtesy of KKV Dental Department.
