Wake up with Breakfast & Love

......

Everyone knows that breakfast is an important meal for children.  Their bodies and brains need energy after sleeping 8 to 10 hours.  Children who eat breakfast are healthy and happy.  They also play and learn better.  don't let your child start their day without it!

Breakfast is not only healthy for children.  It is also create happy memories.  There is nothing quite as comforting as waking to the smell of breakfast cooking - those delicious smells can make children want to jump out of the bed and run to the kitchen.

Start your child's day with pancakes.  Children love pancakes!  They are quick and easy to make.  Make your pancakes extra special.  Dribble the batter in the skillet to make animal shapes - Mickey Mouse, cats, bunnies, snakes and mice.  Children love to guess which animal is on their plate.  Be creative and have fun with your child in the kitchen.

....The Morning Rush!

Mornings can be rush!  We hurry to get ready for work, school and day care.  And then we run out the door.  We know breakfast is important, but there never seems to be enough time to eat it.

Breakfast is important for both you and your child.  Children who learn to eat breakfast when young will continue to eat breakfast as adults.  Help your child learn healthy eating habits - start every day with breakfast.

There are many easy breakfasts that you can take along.  Try one of these:

  • ......Spread peanut butter on toast.  Try raisin toast.
  • ......Stuff scrambled eggs in a tortilla shell.  Add cheese and salsa if desired.
  • ......Top an english muffin with jelly and mozzarella cheese.  Melt in microwave.
  • ......Grab a slice of banana bread, blueberry muffin or a fruit filled scone.
  • ......Mix together your child's favorite cereals - bring along in a plastic bag.  Toss in some dried fruits.

Children should eat at least 5 servings of fruits and vegetables each day for the best health.  Eating fruit for breakfast is a great .....start!  There are many ways to include fruit.  Try some of these:

  • ......Drink a glass of juice.  Choose fruit juices that are 100% juice with no added sugar.  Limit juice to 6 ounces each day.  Enjoy ......juice at breakfast.  Drink water between meals.
  • ......Serve fresh or canned fruit on cereal, pancakes, waffles and french toast.  Bananas, strawberries, peaches, pears, ......blueberries and kiwi fruit taste great.
