Overview The Medical Program at Kokua Kalihi Valley (KKV) had very humble beginnings. Working out of a small apartment, Drs. Charles Judd and William Myers began providing medical services to the Kalihi Valley community in October of 1972. The Medical Services Cllnic then moved into trailers that sat in what is now the parking lot for our current Elder Center. The Community Health Center building at 1846 Gulick Avenue was completed in August of 1985. Over time, the Medical Services grew to include family practice, OB/GYN, psychiatry, pediatrics, and preventive medicine. Services are available to all age groups and types of meidical problems to the residents of Kalihi Valley. For over a decade, KKV has made a special effort to meet often neglected needs in the community such as asthma, diabetes, cardiovascular, hepatitis, tuberculosis, thalassemia, sexually-transmitted diseases, and other health issues dealing with health education, nutrition, immunizations and behavioral health programs. With the new millineum, KKV continues to provide and expand medical services to our friends and neighbors in Kalihi Valley. In March of 2001, KKV moved into its current main clinic and administrative offices building, the Charles Judd Community Health Center located at 2239 North School Street in Honolulu. As with many of other staff at Kokua Kalihi Valley, our Medical Staff speaks many of the Asian and Pacific Islander languages of our clients/neighbors. Kalihi Valley residents come to KKV with a host of expectations, guided by their personal and cultural ideas of health care. Our medical staff work hard to understand these expectations, to remain aware of the potential for miscommunication, and to support the role that traditional healing and belief play in the health of Kalihi Valley residents. Our approach emphasizes family-focused, unharried, primary care services. We have specialists board certified Internal Medicine and Geriatric Medicine, Family Practice, Pediatrics, Obstretics/Gynecology and Preventive Medicine. We work closely with professional education/medical residency training programs in Pediatrics and OB/GYN.
